Penny Black Winter Berries

Hi,
Making a couple of cards for a card exchange; one of my categories is Christmas.  A couple of Christmases ago I ordered several Penny Black stamps online and I keep them like prized possessions in a special wooden box shaped like a trunk!  Although  now most of my purchases are cling or clear stamps, I tend to buy background and less trendy sentiment styles in wood.  Most valuable information!  Here is my card:
Have a wonderful day!

Make It Monday #166

Hi,
Have 3 days off work so I thought I 'd take part in this fun challenge!  I don't have a whole lot of PTI dyes, and I have discovered that several that  I do own are joined together, like many of the flower and leaf dyes. The biggest challenge was choosing a dye where the flowers  were at least oriented in the same direction.
So here it is, using Rosie Posie.  As usual, this was fun and whenever I partake in these challenges, I always think, why don't I do these every week?  Guess it's that little TIME  thing.
Cheers,
Val

Mama Elephant Summer Garden CASE Card

Hi,
Perhaps it is the new spring growth that inspired me to make (copy) some cards.  It doesn't really matter; I had fun and like what I made! Love the detail in these new Mama Elephant stamps, they are so pretty.
After seeing this card, I actually bought (ordered online) the same stencil, waited for it to arrive, and made the card.  That rarely happens as I live in Atlantic Canada and it can take 3 weeks for parcels to arrive from the US and by then I have other ideas. But this time my order arrived in 8 days! Makes for a happy girl!
Cheers,
Val

Winter Berries

Hi,
I was having trouble coming up with a card idea, when I decided to take a favorite stamp and just make something.  Sometimes I spend too much time looking on the computer for that perfect card, when I could be making a card. Some cards I will like, some I won't, but that is all part of creating.  So here is my card using the Penny Black Winter Berries stamp.

Cheers,
Val

Hi,
This card was created  for the Papertrey Ink Make It Monday using an "ink blowing technique". I thought this sounded a little hokey and I considered foregoing the challenge, but I'll have to be honest and confess that the prize spoke to me! Have a grand day,
Val

Make It Monday # 105

Hi,
I looked at the PTI Make It Monday and had 18 minutes to make a card, get a photo, post it to my blog  and  upload to Papertrey.  Came close but didn't quite make it!  Perhaps I work better under pressure because I had previously made a card but didn't upload it due to a high ugly factor!  Hope this is a little prettier.  Enjoy your day,
Val

Birthday Card for a Friend

Hi,
Can you believe I have completed  2 posts in less than one week!  I have been again inspired by Papertrey Ink, ok maybe the threat of winning a prize has a motivating factor.  Also I needed a card for a friend, and this friend is a very good cardmaker herself so I wanted to make something I thought she might like.  Anyway, the PTI challenge today is to use a watercolor technique or look, so I made some "spray paint" with a reinker and "painted " a background on watercolor paper before stamping it.  This is what I came up with:

Cheers,
Val

Materials:
Paper:  PTI C/S Rustic White, Strathmore Watercolor Paper
Stamps:  PTI Daydreamer, Framed Out #1, Tag Its #5

Managed to whip up a card in the midst of shovelling out of about 35 cm (14 inches) of snow!  It has been such a winter wonderland this year so far.   I chose to use Sketch # 2, which you can see here. This is what I came up with:

Layered Embossing

Hi,
Made this card for the Make It Monday Challenge #101 which requires heat embossing over a previously embossed area;  the details are HERE.   I almost always think I need to rush out and get just the right stamp set for each particular challenge, but then (sometimes) I return to my senses and endeavour to make use of my existing supplies, which i am thinking, is good for the creativity side of things. I am so enjoying our  cold but very bright winter this year.  Yes, that is snow in the background!
Cheers,
Val

Make It Monday #100

Hi,
I must say that I found this to be a most fun challenge, packaging cards with oversized embellishments.  Dawn's video was very inspirational.  You can view and link up to the Papertrey Ink weekly challenge HERE.  For my  card, I used a Scorpal to score the front card panel, stamped and die cut In Bloom elements and adhered them to the panel, and attached all to a kraft card base. The sentiment strip was lightly stamped with a grid pattern, with the sentiment  placed over top, and then affixed to a kraft outline panel and adhered to the card. The outer card edges were then inked with white ink. For the card package, I cut a piece of striped vellum and border punched the upper edge, and cut a slightly larger piece of plain brown parcel paper and border punched its upper edge as well. Placing the 2 pieces together,  I  stitched around all but one side, leaving the top open. Finally, some stamped die cuts and a couple of twine bows were added.

A few weeks ago I broke a couple of bones in my foot and several people were so helpful to me, picking up groceries, shovelling snow from my walkway, and driving me to social events among many other things.  I plan to give this card to one of those kind friends on the weekend.
Cheers,
Val

Chalkboard Thankyou

Hi,
Got a chance to try the Papertrey Ink Make It Monday #98. What a fun technique! I didn't have many stamps that readily complement this particular style, but that always makes it more of a challenge, doesn't it? However, I have always liked the font on the Think Big Favorites #5 Thank You stamp, and thought  it might make a good focal point.  I am really looking forward to see what others have posted. Enjoy your day,
 Val
